Official Hawai'i 2000 Millennium Smart Card Soon Smart cards look like credit cards but they have a microprocessor chip embedded in them. The chip is a tiny computer that can be used to implement a number of applications, including electronic cash, loyalty and affinity programs, physical access, resort cards, identification, and the list goes on. |

In March 1999, Hawai'i's Governor Benjamin Cayetano appointed a special commission tasked to coordinate and promote events and activities during the yearlong celebration of the year 2000. Through the efforts of the Hawai'i Millennium Commission (HMC), the State of Hawai'i hopes to entice expatriates, former visitors and new visitors to the islands. In July 1999, the HMC selected The Pathways Group, Inc. as the "Hawai'i 2000 Millennium Web Site Provider." The pages of this site will serve as a portal to events and products commemorating Hawai'i 2000, The Dawn of the New Millennium.
